KDE logo After a delay to the final release date to accommodate last minute changes, the KDE developers have released the third release candidate for KDE 4.10. Barring any major problems, this should be the last release candidate before KDE 4.10's release on 6 February.

The KDE developers are encouraging a wider participation in the testing of KDE 4.10 and have instructions how to configure test versions of KDE – on live CDs, virtual machines or on existing installations – and offer pointers on what to test and how to report problems.

KDE 4.10 makes much more use of the Qt Quick technology of the Qt framework. Qt Quick is a system which uses a declarative language to define user interfaces and now, more of the Plasma Workspaces widgets, such as the system tray, pager, notifications, weather and calculator, make use of it. Other changes include a better Okular reader, a touch-friendly Okular Active, improved colour correction and print management, and an enhanced KATE text editor. Full details of KDE 4.10's enhancements are in the feature plan.

Source code for KDE 4.10 RC3 is available to download and community builds are also available. KDE is published under a number of open source licences.
