Shortly after releasing KDE 4.9.5, the developers of the desktop environment have announced that the release of the next version of the Software Collection will be delayed until next month. KDE 4.10 was originally scheduled to arrive on 23 January, but a third release candidate has now been scheduled for 18 January; this means the final release will slip to 6 February according to the current schedule. The slip is due to what the developers call "a few last minute changes".

Along with the announcement of their decision to release an RC3 of KDE 4.10, the developers have also said that KDE 4.9.5 will be the last release of the 4.9 branch of the desktop environment. All development is now focused on the next version and developers have been directed to move any features that are not finished forward for inclusion in KDE 4.11, which does not have a release date yet.
