After more than a year in development, the Jolicloud developers have confirmed that the major 1.0 release of their operating system has started rolling out to existing users this week. According to a post on the Jolicloud blog, founding members that have been running Jolicloud since the first Alpha release will receive the update first.

Jolicloud is a free, Linux-based operating system aimed specifically at netbook computers that includes all of the necessary drivers for most netbooks. It supports a wide variety of systems and features built-in social networking support, allowing users to collaborate and share with their friends, and gives users the option to back up their data to the cloud. Version 1.0 of Jolicloud includes a new interface and customisable launcher built entirely in HTML5, and support for some touchscreen displays.

The team over at the German language NetBook News blog have already received the 1.0 update to Jolicloud (German language page) and posted a video of their first impressions on YouTube. If selected to receive the update, users will be notified via the system's Update page. Following installation, the developers remind users that they also need to be connected to the internet the first time they launch Jolicloud 1.0 to activate their system.

Only the Pre-Final version of 1.0 is currently available to download from the project's site. Users can choose between installing Jolicloud via a standard ISO image or alongside Windows using Jolicloud Express and documentation is provided. The developers have yet to confirm when the final version of Jolicloud 1.0 will be available to download from their site. Jolicloud is licensed under the GNU General Public Licence (GPL) and other open source licences.
