Jenkins specialist CloudBees joins the Eclipse Foundation
CloudBees has joined the Eclipse Foundation as a solutions member. Founded in 2010 by former JBoss CTO Sacha Labourey and backed by Matrix Partners, CloudBees is a Platform as a Service (PaaS) provider that specialises in the Jenkins continuous integration (CI) software, the controversial fork of Hudson; Hudson creator Kohsuke Kawaguchi is among the company's employees.
Solutions Member status, formerly known as an "Add-In Provider", is aimed at the smaller organisations who consider Eclipse an important part of their strategy and offer products based on Eclipse. A full list of Eclipse Solutions Members is available on the Eclipse web site.
At the same time, CloudBees also announced the General Availability (GA) of its proprietary CloudBees Toolkit for Eclipse plug-in. With the toolkit, Java developers can use Jenkins from within Eclipse to manage builds and deploy applications. CloudBees CEO Sacha Labourey said: "Our goal at CloudBees is to shorten the develop-build-deploy lifecycle for Java developers and make it as frictionless as possible."
More details about the CloudBees Toolkit for Eclipse can be found in a post on the CloudBees Blog. The CloudBees Toolkit for Eclipse requires Eclipse 3.6 and is available via Ecipse.CloudBees.com; a video of the CloudBees Toolkit for Eclipse in action is provided on YouTube.
