JavaScript SIP client sipML5 supports audio and video calls

According to the developers of the recently released sipML5 client, it is the first open source SIP client using HTML5. The software is written in JavaScript, uses Web Real Time Communication (WebRTC), and supports voice and video calling as well as text messages. The client runs in HTML5-compatible browsers without the need for any plugins and is therefore suitable for embedding in social networking sites, web games or online stores.

According to the developers, the WebRTC implementation used in sipML5 requires features that are currently only found in the development versions of Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer. They recommend version 20.0.1127.0 or later of Chrome from the Canary development branch. The software can place multiple calls over different SIP accounts as well as hold and forward calls to different clients. DTMF (dual-tone multi-frequency signalling) is also supported.

sipML5 was developed by Doubango Telecom and its source code can be downloaded from the project's Google Code site. The software is licensed under the GPLv3.
