Jaspersoft have updated their open source Business Intelligence (BI) Suite with Jaspersoft v3.5. The new version has two major new features, in-memory analysis and multi-tenant operations. In-memory analysis allows the client to perform data analysis on their local system, rather than sending queries to an OLAP server or data warehouse, so businesses which do not have the resources or capabilities to set up an OLAP server or data warehouse can now still perform analysis.

Multi-tenant operation in Jaspersoft is a result of Jaspersoft working with customers to enable the BI package as Software as a Service (SaaS). It allows multiple organisations to share a single deployment, with administration tools to manage the shared deployment and single sign-on authentication for users. Jaspersoft say they have implemented row and column level data security, which can allow a hierarchy of organisations, such as a corporation and subsidiaries, to securely share appropriate information from within the BI platform.

The update also sees the incorporation of a new web based report builder, scalability improvements, new user and role searching and other enhancements. Jaspersoft's components are available on the Jaspersoft site and the Jasperforge.org site hosts the open source projects.
