Jaspersoft analyses data from NoSQL databases

Jaspersoft is offering connectors for its BI software to enable access to data stored in Hadoop clusters, various NoSQL databases and Netezza, Vertica and EMC Greenplum's MPP analysis databases. Jaspersoft accesses Hadoop clusters via SQL-addon Hive, with support for storage in both the HDFS file system and in the HBase database. The BI software also supports the NoSQL databases Cassandra, MongoDB, Riak, HBase, CouchDB, Neo4J, Infinispan, VoltDB, Redis and VMware GemFire.

Jaspersoft sees these distributed storage technologies for storing large data volumes as part of a 'Big Data' trend, where data is stored in terabyte or petabyte volumes, getting to grips with which places a high technical and financial burden on conventional SQL databases. Jaspersoft hopes that the new connectors, free open source versions of most of which are available, will underline the flexibility offered by its BI software.

Instead of tables and relations, NoSQL databases store data in document-oriented (CouchDB, MongoDB), graph and node (Neo4J), key value pair (Redis, Riak) or column-oriented form (Cassandra, HBase). In order to achieve a high level of scalability, they tend to offer lower guarantees of consistency than relational databases. The name NoSQL derives from the fact that the databases are not usually queried using SQL.
