In what is positioned as the first of a series of releases to enable support for "existing and emerging data environments", Jaspersoft has released the latest version of Jaspersoft BI Suite, the open source business intelligence suite. In Jaspersoft 4.1, the most prominent new feature is a new unified analysis environment; instead of requiring the use of a variety of tools to access data from different sources, the new environment provides a single web-based user interface for data from OLAP, relational and big data sources. This will allow "BI Builders" – the people who create the reports and analysis – to stay within the Jaspersoft BI web-based environment.

With the integration of analysis into the BI web application framework, the company says it now offers a "100% web application architecture" based around W3C standards. The BI web framework has been improved with the ability to more simply customise it using CSS markup techniques. Jaspersoft 4.1 now supports a native 64-bit installer, enabling developers to take advantage of the more powerful hardware where additional performance or scalability is needed.

Jaspersoft's BI suite is structured as an open core project. Its basic components are available as open source code in community versions, but the complete suite with additional features is only available as a commercial product. A table is provided to compare the various editions. The community versions of Jaspersoft products are available to download under the GPL or LGPL licence.
