Red Hat logo The US-based Linux distributor Red Hat has announced the arrival of version 5.3 of its JBoss Business Rules Management System (BRMS). The middleware solution aims to provide a platform for developing and automating business rules and processes, as well as complex event processing (CEP). BRMS is a core component of Red Hat's integration portfolio; other components include the new JBoss Enterprise Application Platform 6 and JBoss Enterprise SOA Platform 5.3.

The product, which is based on open source technologies, uses the Drools rules engine and the jBPM business process management system, both of which are written in Java, with version 5 of JBPM Workflow Engine a new addition. Its function is to monitor and manage the entire life cycle of the business process. The BRMS also adds support for version 2.0 of the BPMN (Business Process Model and Notation) standard.
