Intel logo Intel has announced a range of Moblin and Atom initiatives at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF). The Intel Atom Developer Programme is aimed at providing developers with the SDKs, tools and support needed to create applications for Atom devices running Windows or Intel's mobile Linux distribution – Moblin.

Renee James, head of Intel's Software and Services Group, also announced that Dell will be offering its new Inspiron Mini 10v netbook with Ubuntu Moblin Remix. ASUS, Acer and Samsung are also planning to release Atom netbooks running Moblin.

Intel is working with Microsoft to port Flash alternative Silverlight – version 3 should be available for Moblin early next year. Silverlight applications will run on Atom devices running both Windows 7 and Moblin. Intel will in turn support Silverlight within its Atom Developer Programme. According to a blog entry from Microsoft's Silverlight team, the initiative will complement their work with Novell's open source port of Silverlight for Linux, Moonlight.
