Innobase logo Innobase, the subsidiary of Oracle, which develops InnoDB, the transactional storage engine for MySQL, has announced Embedded InnoDB. The new database is based on the InnoDB Plug-in but is independent of MySQL. It has been designed to be linked to applications and provide non-SQL low level database services. This includes an ISAM like API, cursor and transaction management and query-able indexes. Embedded InnoDB is licensed under the GNU General Public Licence Version 2.

The library boasts a 838K footprint with a fully multi-threaded engine with support for C and C++ applications. According to Innobase, an Early Adopter release in binary form for Windows and Linux is available from the Innobase site, although at time of writing, only links to the source code were visible.
