Inkscape Logo After more than six months of work, the Inkscape development team has issued the first point update to version 0.48 of their open source scalable vector editor from August of last year, Inkscape 0.48.1. According to the developers, the maintenance update contains fixes for over 80 bugs and improves the application's stability and performance on all platforms.

Inkscape 0.48.1 addresses issues ranging from a problem that prevented the application from loading extensions on Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, to bugs saving .xfc files and opening previously imported PDFs, as well as several crashing bugs. Numerous translations were also updated. The developers note the update was delayed due to issues out of their control, adding that they plan to release at least one more point update to the 0.48 branch of Inkscape before version 0.49 arrives.

More details about the release can be found on the milestone page and in the release notes. Inkscape 0.48.1 is available to download as pre-compiled executables for Windows and Mac OS X or as source code which can be also be compiled on Linux. The source is released under the terms of GPL v. 2.
