IBM's developerWorks portal celebrates 10th anniversary

IBM This week IBM's developerWorks celebrates its 10th anniversary. The developer website was founded on 28th September 1999 as an open source community portal, with particular emphasis on Java, XML, web services and Linux. The portal now has around 4 million unique visitors per month.

Visitors to the website will now find around 17,000 articles and 1,400 tutorials. There are also more than 300 blogs and 340 community groups. In total, developerWorks has more than 300,000 registered users from 195 countries, using the site in eight languages.

From this year IBM has also started offering social networking and collaboration features in the form of "My developerWorks", which allows interested users to put together individual home pages, allowing them to obtain an overview of technical updates and their contacts' activities.
