The Hibernate developers have introduced a new version of their search engine for the popular Java based persistence framework. Version 3.1.0 of Hibernate Search offers performance and stability improvements as well as several minor new features described in the changelog.

Originally part of the core development of Hibernate, the separate project aims to introduce full text searches to the Hibernate persistence world via Hibernate Annotations and a common API. Hibernate Search takes care of object/index translations, optimises the index access transparently and keeps changes synchronised with the database. Hibernate Search includes the Apache Lucene search engine, updated to Lucene 2.4 for this release. Java 5 and Hibernate 3.3 are required for using Hibernate Search.
