Cloudera Logo Hadoop service provider Cloudera has announced that it has secured $25 million in venture funding from Meritech Capital Partners, bringing its overall funding total to $36 million. Cloudera, which received its initial funding from investors Accel Partners and Greylock Partners, offers an enterprise version of the open source Cloudera Distribution for Hadoop (CDH) and subscription support services that include additional tools for the monitoring, management and administration of Hadoop installations.

According to the company, the new Series C funding will be used to invest in further product development and additional services to support the growth and adoption of Hadoop by enterprise organisations. Cloudera feels that more organisations are turning to Hadoop "to meet the deluge of data they are faced with because it offers a cost-effective platform for capturing, consolidating and analysing data" and says that its software and services will make it easier and faster for them to put Hadoop into production.

Discussing the announcement, Cloudera CEO Mike Olson said, "Hadoop adoption among enterprises is strong and accelerating," adding that, "This year, we released major upgrades to our open source platform and introduced Cloudera Enterprise, our subscription offering with the tools and support necessary for mission-critical Hadoop deployment. As customer interest intensifies in the US and around the world, we need to increase our capacity and reach. Meritech’s investment helps us advance our offerings and satisfy the high demand we’re seeing."

Further information about the funding can be found in the company's official press release.
