Hewlett Packard has released the source code of the Advanced File System (AdvFS) from Tru64 Unix under the GPL. HP has also made the documentation, test tools and development resources fully available. The project has its own page on SourceForge.

Martin Fink, Vice President and Head of the Department of critical systems at HP said the aim is to integrate the code into Linux and "To a high degree of data security and availability, Linux users need access to well-established technology". AdvFS has been used for over 15 years in HP's Tru64 Unix. According to IDC HP leads the sales ranking for Linux servers.
