GroundWork and Eucalyptus announce private cloud beta programme
US network management software vendor GroundWork Open Source (GWOS) has announced that it has partnered with open source cloud computing specialist Eucalyptus Systems to deliver monitoring and management of applications running in a Eucalyptus private cloud environment. Under the new partnership, the two companies will initially be trialling the GroundWork Monitor Enterprise Cloud (MEC) solution which monitors Eucalyptus clouds, other data center resources and public clouds, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS).
Eucalyptus, an acronym for "Elastic Utility Computing Architecture Linking Your Programs To Useful Systems", allows for the implementation of cloud computing within a datacenter by providing an Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) solution that is compatible with Amazon Web Services (AWS), including Amazon's Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), Simple Storage Service (S3) and Elastic Block Store (EBS). Discussing the new programme, Marten Mickos, CEO of Eucalyptus Systems, said that, “Detailed monitoring and management of private cloud applications can give Eucalyptus users important real-time information to increase productivity and reduce costs”.
Those interested in applying for the GroundWork Monitor Enterprise Cloud Beta Programme must first complete a one-page survey. The beta programme will begin on the 14th of April and successful applicants will be notified by email within 10 days.
