Zoom Google Chrome 8.0.552.0 on Mac OS X.
Google has released version 8.0.552.0 of Chrome for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux into the WebKit-based browser's developer channel (a.k.a. the Dev channel). The first Chrome 8.x Dev branch release comes just days after Chromium 8.0.550.0 – the open source browser upon which Chrome is based – arrived.

The latest Dev channel release features the addition of GPU Accelerated Canvas 2D support, enabling GPU acceleration of the HTML5 Canvas feature, and "Cloud Print" options which are expected to be used by Google's Chrome OS. According to Download Squad, full hardware acceleration won't be available in Chrome until at least version 9.

The Windows and Linux builds also include built-in support for Google Instant, the company's new search enhancement that provides live updated search results as users input their queries. The feature will reportedly be added to future builds of Chrome in a few days time. Users that install the Dev build can find the above options by opening a new tab and typing in "about:labs".

As with all development releases, use in production environments and on mission critical systems is not advised. Users testing the release are encouraged to provide feedback and report any bugs that they encounter.

More details about the release can be found in a post on the Google Chrome Releases blog and in the SVN Revision Log. Chrome 8.0.552.0 is available to download for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux from dev.chromium.org. The latest stable release of Chrome is version 6.0.472.63 from the 22nd of September.
