Google has shared a beta version of Gears that supports Apple's Safari web-browser. The release is an unofficial beta version of the browser extension and users are warned "It might break your browser. Chances are it will break your browser."

The announcement pointed to a list of known issues and to a page for reporting new issues. The beta version of Gears for Safari, 0.4.16.0, runs with Safari 3.1.1 on Tiger 10.4.11 and Leopard 10.5.3 and is available to download. Once installed, the extension will automatically update itself. Until the release of this beta, Gears was supported on Mac OS X, but only when using the Firefox browser.
