Google release email troubleshooter

Google have released POP and IMAP Troubleshooter as an open source, cross platform tool. The troubleshooter runs on Linux, Windows and Mac OS X and is able to diagnose and repair email problems. It is able to read the configuration of email clients such as Outlook, Windows Mail and Thunderbird, and then using these settings, attempt to create POP, IMAP or SMTP connections to check the connection settings.

The troubleshooter can be built in two forms; as a generic email testing application or as a email service specific version for mail providers. The tool is written in C++, uses the Qt toolkit and is licensed under the Apache License 2.0. Source code for the tool is available in the project's Subversion repository or can be downloaded as a tar archive.

A Windows binary version of the tool, customised for Google's own GMail service, is available.
