The OpenStreetMap donation drive to raise £10,000 for new servers has met and exceeded it's goals. The request by the free mapping project for donations went out on Thrursday 5th. By Sunday, the target had been met. This morning, OpenStreetMap twittered that Google had donated £5,000 to the project, bringing the total raised to £15,530.

The fundraising drive was announced to raise money for new servers to power the OpenStreetMap API to meet the "exponential growth since day one" of the free and open mapping project, which uses GPS data collected by volunteers to construct street maps which are not encumbered by licensing or copyright restrictions.
