Google and Samsung have announced a new date and time for their joint Android event; the original event, which was scheduled to take place on 11 October, was postponed by the companies last week. According to AllThingsD, the joint event will now take place on 19 October at 10:00 am HKT (3:00 am BST) in Hong Kong, at its AsiaD conference.

Android chief Andy Rubin and an unconfirmed Samsung executive are slated to speak at the event. It is expected that they will reveal the next major update to Android, code-named "Ice Cream Sandwich" (ICS), along with a new 'Nexus' device. As it has done in the past before other Android release announcements, Google has already added a new giant lawn decoration at its campus, this time of the Android robot mascot as an Ice Cream Sandwich. The video of the decoration being put into place was announced on the Android team's new @Android Twitter account.

Rumoured to be called the "Nexus Prime", the new "Google Experience" device will be the first to run Android ICS, a major update to the open source mobile operating system. This will reportedly include features from both the current phone version, 2.3.x "Gingerbread", and the tablet version, 3.x "Honeycomb", and will work on both large- and small-screen devices. The company's current Nexus smartphone, the Nexus S, is expected to receive an update from 2.3.x "Gingerbread" to ICS shortly after it is announced.

A live-stream of the event will be available on the official Android Developer Channel on YouTube at YouTube.com/Android.
