GWT Logo The developers of the Google Web Toolkit (GWT) have released version 2.1 of the open source development framework written in Java for creating Ajax applications. The new version includes the concept of Activities and Places for the development of large GWT applications based on the "Model View Presenter" (MVP) pattern. Other innovations include Cell Widgets, the SafeHTML library to provide protection from cross-site scripting (XSS) violations in GWT applications and Request Factory as a new RPC alternative (Remote Procedure Call) to generate data-oriented services.

The Speed Tracer performance profiler launched in version 2.0 of GWT now allows server times to be displayed for applications running with Google’s App Engine and SpringSource tc Server Developer Edition. GWT can now also be integrated with SpringSource tools Roo and Insight as well as with the SpringSource Tool Suite (STS).

Further information can be found in the official release announcement and in the release notes. Google Web Toolkit 2.1 is available for downloading from the project's Google Code page and is licensed under version 2.0 of the Apache license.
