GnuCash Logo The GnuCash development team has announced the arrival of version 2.4.0 of its free accounting software for GNU/Linux, *BSD, Solaris, Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X. According to a mailing list post by developer Phil Longstaff, the latest stable release replaces the GtkHTML-based HTML engine used to display reports and graphs with WebKit, the engine used by Google's Chrome web browser and Safari – while the WebKit-based renderer is preferred, the current GtkHTML engine can still be used.

In addition to the XML backend, the SQLite3, MySQL and PostgreSQL databases are now supported. The developers note that users running earlier versions of GnuCash should uninstall older releases before installing 2.4.0, as failing to do so could result in startup errors.

Further information about the release can be found in the official release announcement. GnuCash 2.4.0 is available to download from SourceForge and is licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL).
