Glibc 2.17 includes 64-bit ARM support
With the release of version 2.17, the GNU C Library (glibc) now supports the upcoming ARM 64-bit infrastructure (AArch64). The port was accomplished with help from developers at the Linaro engineering organisation. Glibc 2.17 also includes better support for cross-compilation and testing and a number of performance improvements.
According to the developers, the minimum Linux kernel version that can be used with glibc 2.17 is Linux 2.6.16 and additional ports are now distributed in the ports subdirectory with the library instead of separately. New configuration options allow users to disable the Name Service Caching Daemon (nscd) when building the C library and give distributors the ability to embed their bug reporting information and package version in the --help and --version output for the library.
Information on all changes in glibc 2.17 is available in the release announcement. The GNU C Library is the C library used by most systems that are based on the Linux kernel. Licensed under the LGPL, the Glibc source code is available to download from the GNU web site.
