GitHub now SSL only

GitHub Logo Following last month's launch of secure cookies for all SSL-protected pages, the GitHub developers have announced that the next phase of their latest security audit has rolled out: SSL everywhere. From now on, all traffic to the project repository service, both logged in and otherwise, will be over HTTPS using a secure cookie. The developers note that some resources are still being served directly from other sites and giving SSL warnings. They say that they will be working to address this "over the next few days".

GitHub provides hosted repositories for Git, the distributed revision control system developed by Linus Torvalds, enhancing the system with its own web front end and tools. GitHub has become one of the most active venues for open source developers to share, discuss and develop their code, building on Git's ability to allow developers to clone a code repository and work with the code without having to coordinate pushing changes back.
