GitHub launches new Android app

Source: GitHub The developers at GitHub have announced the launch of an official Android mobile application for their Git DVCS based project hosting service. Its creators say that the aim of the new app – built using open source projects such as ActionBarSherlock and released as open source itself – is to provide the site's users with a quick way to "always stay connected with the discussion and progress" of their active projects.

The application offers a limited, but useful, set of features. Once logged into the app with a GitHub account, users can work with Gists and create, manage and discuss issues under the Issue Dashboard. For large repositories, issues can be filtered by label, milestone and assignees to find specific tickets. These can also be bookmarked in the app for quick access. The GitHub app includes an integrated news feed for keeping up-to-date with the most recent updates from saved organisations, friends and repositories.

The GitHub Android App is available to download from the Google Play store for devices running Android 2.2 "Froyo", or later. Users can report problems and request new features on the GitHub Android App Issues page. Source code for the app is available in its own GitHub repository and licensed under the Apache 2.0 Licence.
