GitHub, the project repository based around Linus Torvald's Git, has announced write support for Subversion. GitHub had launched read support for Subversion on April 1st, although it was believed at the time to be only a temporary feature. Now, with the addition of write support, that feature looks more permanent.

GitHub says the write functionality is considered beta at the moment and that developers "are taking a certain risk allowing Subversion to modify bits in your code". They also note that there will be "some strange looking merge history when working with someone using Subversion".
