Gentoo The Gentoo developers have announced the availability of Gentoo Linux 10.0 as a special edition LiveDVD to celebrate their tenth anniversary. The project usually works with rolling updates: every few weeks, the developers release updated installation CDs that serve as a basis for new Gentoo installations. Users then keep their systems current by installing regular online updates.

The Gentoo Linux 10.0 LiveDVD features the 2.6.30 Linux kernel and a choice of either GNOME 2.26.3, KDE 4.3.1 or Xfce 4.6.1 for the desktop environment. New package updates include OpenOffice 3.1.1, AbiWord 2.6.4, GIMP 2.6.4 and Firefox 3.5.3. The release also includes Pidgin 2.5.9, Thunderbird 2.0.0.23, Opera 10.0 and Amarok 2.1.1.

More details about the release can be found in the announcement blog post and on the project's Frequently Asked Questions page. Gentoo Linux 10.0 is available to download as a LiveDVD for 32 and 64-bit systems. A Gentoo Handbook is also provided that includes information on installing from the LiveDVD.
