GUIdancer test tool to become Eclipse project
Long-time Eclipse member Bredex plans to release core components of its GUIdancer test automation tool as an open source project hosted by the Eclipse Foundation. In the company's announcement press release
, Bredex managing director and GUIdancer project lead Achim Lörke says that his company based its decision on customer requests for longevity assurance, adding that, "Open source is quickly becoming a preferred model to ensure the long–term availability of software without having to negotiate agreements about investment security for the development process".
Bredex notes that it also wants to improve the status and spread of acceptance testing in the testing industry. The company added that, currently, much of the focus in automated software testing is on JUnit or API testing, which doesn't test the software from a customer perspective.
According to its roadmap, Bredex plans to release version 5.0 of GUIdancer at the same time as the "Jubula Functional Testing Tool" in spring 2011. Jubula is to offer the test tool's main features and form the basis for the ongoing development of GUIdancer. GUIdancer will become available as an enterprise version with added features for testers and test managers.
At this year's EclipseCon 2010 conference, which took place in March, GUIdancer won the Best Commercial Eclipse-based Developer Tool award.
