GNOME Foundation announces the next two GUADEC venues
The GNOME Foundation, as the organisers of the GUADEC development conference, has announced the locations for the next two GUADEC conferences. GUADEC 2013 will take place in Brno, Czech Republic from 1 to 8 August 2013 at Brno University of Technology. Since the foundation also received "a second outstanding proposal" from community members in Strasbourg, they have already decided that GUADEC 2014 will take place in France; however, a concrete date for that event has not been set.
GUADEC brings together the GNOME community once a year and is as much a conference as a collection of loosely organised hack sessions. Traditionally, many of the important decisions regarding the overall direction of the project have been made at GUADEC and the developers often use the conference to brainstorm new ideas as well. One theme of GUADEC 2013 is likely be "GNOME OS", an initiative which encompasses different approaches to turning the GNOME desktop into a self-sufficient platform.
