The GNOME developers have announced the release of the first point update to GNOME 2.26, released just one month ago. This point release of the free open source desktop environment includes several bug fixes, translation updates and documentation changes.

The next point update, GNOME 2.26.2, is expected on the 20th of May. The GNOME development team are currently working on the next development branch that will become GNOME 2.28, scheduled for the end of September. GNOME 2.30, which will be re-numbered as 3.0.0, will be a major overhaul of the user interface and is expected to arrive in March of 2010.

A list of distributions that use GNOME as their Default Desktop can be found on the distributions page of the GNOME web site.
