MontaVista has announced the arrival of a new release of its Automotive Technology Platform (ATP). Version 2.0 of ATP is compliant with the new GENIVI Specification 2.0 from the GENIVI Alliance, a non-profit industry alliance founded in 2009. The GENIVI compliance standards are designed to provide an open reference platform for in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) systems.

ATP 2.0 contains a core Linux-based system, to which vendors can add various pre-packaged or custom components. The objective is to reduce development times and, through the use of standard components in areas such as network connectors and graphical user interfaces, to simplify development of new devices. ATP's features even include advanced security capabilities with support for SELinux.

Notable changes in version 2.0 include improvements to the audio and display layer managers and the use of the systemd Linux init system for booting. MontaVista has also better hardware support, enabling ATP 2.0 to run on embedded systems with Renesas, Freescale and Intel Atom processors. ATP 2.0 will be generally available for download in early June.
