Funambol has released the seventh major release of the Funambol, its push email and mobile device synchronisation platform. Funambol consists of a synchronisation and mail server and plugins for mobile devices and desktop applications to make use of that server. Funambol can also support native synchronisation features in some mobile device, like SyncML. New features in Funambol v7 include support for BlackBerry push email and PIM synchronisation, an iPhone plugin for contacts sync, plugins for Windows Mobile and Outlook to sync notes and briefcase files and improved support for Samsung and LG phones using the Funambol Java ME mail client.

A new Funambol server SDK, complete with testing framework, opens the way for new connector modules allowing other mobile device developers to more easily plug in to Funambol's synchronisation cloud.

Funambol is a dual licensed application, with the Community Edition licensed under the Affero GPL3, and a commercial Carrier Edition licence for large scale deployments. Details of the changes in the Community Edition can be found in the release notes and it is available to download now.
