FreeNAS logo Version 8.0.3 of the open source FreeNAS network-attached storage operating system has been released. The maintenance update to the 8.0.x branch of FreeNAS adds NFSv4 ACL support, and upgrades Samba from 3.5.11 to the current 3.6.1 release and the Netatalk AFP file server to version 2.2.1.

Other changes include the addition of kernel tunable / sysctl support and the inclusion of version 2.6 of the ATAidle power settings utility for ATA drives. Bugs affecting NTFS volume imports, the user interface, middleware and Active Directory / CIFS have been fixed. The developers also made a cosmetic modification to the user interface, changing "SSH key" to "SSH Public Key", and removed non-essential features and packages.

A full list of changes and fixes can be found in the release notes. FreeNAS 8.0.3 is available to download for 32- and 64-bit systems. Hosted on SourceForge, FreeNAS source code is released under the BSD licence and development is sponsored by iXsystems.
