An update to the Android SDK has brought "Fragments" and other developer features of the recently published Android 3.0 (HoneyComb) to older versions of the operating system. These features are available as part of a static library and can be installed using the SDK Updater.

"Fragments" allows the deconstruction of previously monolithic components in the graphical interface of an application into several more manageable elements. These individual fragments can then be made available in one application and re-used by another application. The update also includes the LoaderManager, an interface which can be used by an Activity or a Fragment to help it manage long-running operations over its life cycle.
