After criticism of Adobe's handling of the open source Flex SDK, a Flex SDK Community Committee has been created. Flex is Adobe's framework for building rich internet applications. The criticism centres around how Adobe handles the open source element of the Flex SDK. According to Simeon Bateman, "this part of the Flex project is a complete failure". Bateman explained in a blog posting in January, that "The current Flex SDK team has about 20 developers and they are fiendishly working on the code for the next version of Flex, the version 4 code named Gumbo". The problem is "they are doing all that development in private, behind closed doors, with nothing but commit logs for us to know what is happening."

The Community Committee has been formed to coordinate an open source voice for Flex developers "for the betterment of the Flex SDK". The move came after an Adobe Flex Community Feedback Forum where two hundred developers participated. Reaction to the feedback forum was mixed, with some developers feeling disappointed while others were more accepting of Adobe's position of open source, but closed development. Already the Community Committee is attempting to get Adobe to address an issue of prefix naming in the future Flex 4.
