First commercial release of ownCloud adds client synchronisation

The developer behind the ownCloud software project has announced the release of ownCloud 2012. The company ownCloud Inc. was formed in December and ownCloud 2012 is the first commercial version of its product. It is based on version 3.0.1 of the community project, but adds improved LDAP and Active Directory integration, as well as more synchronisation features, and clients for Windows, Linux, Android and iOS.

On Windows and Linux, ownCloud 2012 synchronises files with the server and also makes them available offline. Additionally, the clients for Android and iOS also synchronise contacts and calendar data. On top of these features, the commercial edition also includes the web interface from the community version. The Android and iOS applications should be available from their respective app stores soon.

The server for ownCloud is available under the AGPL licence as a Community Edition and with two different support contracts. The Business Edition is also AGPL-licensed and can be purchased with technical support and updates for $100 a month or $999 a year for up to 50 users. The Enterprise edition is available under the proprietary ownCloud licence for $1,500 a month or $15,000 a year for up to 250 users.
