The OpenSuse team has published the first beta of the upcoming version 11.0. With a beta of kernel 2.6.25, Xen 3.2, glibc 2.8, X.org 7.3, Gnome2.22, KDE 4.0.3 and 3.5.9, and the new PulseAudio audio server, the software is now up to date. The Qt front end used in the Yast installation and management tool has been ported to Qt4.

The developers say that packet management has been sped up considerably. Installation is also reportedly faster than in previous beta versions and can now be launched from a live system. The final version of OpenSuse 11.0 is expected to be released in two months.
