According to a posting by Valtteri Halla the Nokia member of the "currently two-person" MeeGo Technical Steering Group, the MeeGo merger of Nokia's Maemo and Intel's Moblin is progressing rapidly. The developers plan to have the public MeeGo repository open by the end of the month, with source and binaries for Intel ATOM and the Nokia N900. Halla calls the opening of the repository "the real Day One" of the MeeGo project.

The posting also explains that the process of technology selection is still ongoing. Although MeeGo's use of the Qt toolkit and RPM packaging were announced at launch, apart from what Halla calls "a few obvious ones (X, ConnMan, oFono, GStreamer, D-Bus)" which can be assumed to be in MeeGo 1, developers should expect announcements of other technology selections in the coming days.

Halla also appeals for co-operation and constructive dialogue from the community as the two companies work to a more open and transparent way to develop MeeGo. The partners plan to deliver a "complete yet not entirely productised Linux distribution" that is "fully Open Source in code and process".
