Firefox downloads pass half a billion
The Firefox browser has now been downloaded over 500 million times. The Firefox marketing project has decided to celebrate the event with a charity campaign: Spread Firefox donates one grain of rice per download to FreeRice - apparently enough to feed 25,000 people for a day.
The first official release of Firefox became available in November 2004. The web browser reached the 400 million downloads mark last September. At that time, the Mozilla team started thinking of ways to keep Firefox users on board. One result of these considerations was probably that the development of Thunderbird was turned into a separate project.
