Firefox 4.0 for Windows mock-ups updated

The redesign will focus on 5 key areas of the Firefox 4 interface. In a post on his Chromatic Pixel blog, Mozilla contributor Stephen Horlander has revealed a number of new design mock-ups for the Windows version of Firefox 4. Horlander says that Mozilla is currently focusing its attention on implementing a new theme for version 4.0 of its popular open source browser.

The "iterations" of what version 4.0 of Firefox for Windows may look like build on July's mock-ups and focus on five key areas, fine-tuning the browsers overall look and feel. The designers are currently debating where to place a new "application button" that is intended to save space. According to Horlander, the button "provides a unified location for menu items".

The new "application button" will provide access to menu items. The designers are also working on the browsers tabs, the bookmarks bar, Firefox's buttons ("Stop/Reload", "Home", etc.) and the search box. Horlander notes that the layout is constantly changing but says to expect something much better than the current 3.5.x design.

Mozilla is seeking feedback from users via its Firefox 4.0 Windows Theme Mock-up Discussion page, which features a number of additional user designs and comparisons to other browsers, such as Google Chrome.
