Firefox 3 logo The Mozilla developers have released a preview of Firefox 3.5, but it is neither a beta or a release candidate. Instead, users that have been using Firefox 3.5 Beta 4 will be receiving an update through the automatic update function to the browser to give them the Firefox 3.5 Preview. To get the update immediately, select "Check for Updates" from the Firefox "Help" menu. The update itself contains fixes for stability bugs, the JavaScript engine and improvements to the built-in support for Ogg based video and audio playback. The preview release has been made available because, although many updates have been made, the developers have been unable to complete the testing needed to qualify a version as a release candidate.

The Firefox 3.5 Preview should be treated as a beta that builds on April's release of Firefox 3.5 Beta 4. Users who are not using a 3.5 beta are recommended to wait for the Firefox 3.5 release candidate, which is due within the next two weeks, but if they do want to test the new version, they should download the current Firefox 3.5 beta and then allow it to install any offered updates.
