Firefox 3.1 gets a built-in privacy mode too

Mozilla's Firefox 3.1 will, when released, feature a privacy mode, joining the beta versions of Google's Chrome and Microsoft's IE8 and the current version of Apple's Safari browser in supporting a mode where the user's browsing will leave no local traces in the browser's history, cache or cookies.

Firefox already has an extension called Stealther which tries to achieve this, but having the feature integrated into the browser would mean wider availability and more reliable privacy management.

Privacy modes are designed to only prevent local traces of a users browsing being retained on the system and do not anonymise the users connection or prevent servers logging IP addresses and activity. Firefox 3.1 is expected to be released as a beta in October.
