Mozilla has delayed the beta version of Firefox 3.1, moving the date of freezing the code for the beta from August 19th to September 9th.

The original plan was to push for a code freeze on the 19th, but a number of planned features for 3.1, such as bulk tagging, cross-site XHR, worker threads and enhancments to JavaScript were not going to be ready in time for that date. Technical difficulties are not to blame according to a ZDNet report. They suggest that a rather busy summer holiday season is actually to blame. There will be a code freeze on the 19th, but this will be for an alpha 2 version of Firefox 3.1.

In other announcements, a new version of Camino, 1.6.3, was released. Camino is an alternative to Firefox on Mac OS X, using the Gecko layout engine, but wrapped in a Mac OS X-native Cocoa user interface. The update is a recommended update with security and stability fixes.

For mobile browser developers, Mozilla also announced a sixth milestone development release of Fennec. The new release of the smaller fox adds a tab-like interface and some other features in its progress towards an alpha version.
