Firebug Logo After more than six months of development, the Firebug developers have announced the availability of version 1.5.0 of their integrated web development tool for Firefox. The update adds a number of features, addresses bugs from previous versions and includes tested support for the imminent Firefox 3.6 release. This makes the 1.5.0 update the first release of Firebug to have support for a forthcoming version of Firefox, instead of trailing the new browser by days or weeks, and it will make the transition to the new browser easier for web developers.

The release features an more reliable Inspect panel with an added "Quick Info Box" and Image Map Inspector. Timing measurement has been made more accurate in an "expanded and refined" Net panel, improvements to the HTML panel now support editing of SVG and MathML and the CSS panel has better handling of duplicate style sheets. Other changes include improvements to the Console and Command Line panels. These now include a persist button which retains previous console output on-demand and dynamic, graphical breakpoint support "throughout Firebug" including XHR breakpoints.

The developers also point out that, thanks to the locale contributors, Firebug now supports 32 languages and that they expect to release a couple of minor updates in the next few weeks. Support for Firebug extension bundles, however, were not added to 1.5.0. The developers say that they are working on it now and hope to have prototypes ready soon.

More details about the release can be found in the official announcment and release notes. Firebug 1.5.0 is available to download from addons.mozilla.org and is released under a BSD-style license.
