Firebird 2.5.1 improves database restore performance

The Firebird Project has announced the arrival of the first point update to version 2.5 of its open source relational database management system. According to the developers, this sub-release addresses "a substantial number" of bugs and includes various improvements and optimisations that didn't make it into the initial release.

Firebird 2.5.1 improves database restore performance and includes the ability to write to global temporary tables in read-only databases. Other changes include the ability to cancel waiting in Lock Manager, updates to query optimiser, remote interface improvements and various other fixes. A bug affecting Mac OS X 10.7 Lion users that caused attempts to start Superserver and Superclassic to fail has also been addressed. As version 2.5.1 has 100 per cent compatible on-disk structure with Firebird 2.5.0, the developers advise users to upgrade as soon as possible.
