Fedora logo The Fedora Linux developers have decided to, yet again, delay the release of Fedora 18's Beta by another week. But, by taking a week out of the beta test period, they still plan to make a final release on 11 December. The decision to take a week out of the schedule has been made to avoid overrunning into the Christmas holiday period.

If Fedora 18 were to be further delayed, there is a distinct possibility that the final release date would have to move into January 2013, the other side of the holiday period. The developers are discussing how to handle further slips.

The cause of the delays has been five unresolved blocker bugs, though since the Go/No-Go meeting the bug list now shows three blocking bug fixes in testing, one new blocking bug and three proposed blocking bugs. One of the major issues is fedup, a new upgrade tool for Fedora, which still needs completing and testing.

Meanwhile, the Fedora ARM team has announced that it has an alpha release for Fedore 18 for ARM. The release can be downloaded as images suitable for PandaBoard, Trim-Slice, Versatile Express and Highbank ARM devices. Further information on the alpha is available on the project's wiki.
