Jules Verne
With 421 ballots cast, the winning name for Fedora 16 has been announced as "Verne". The name "Verne" was suggested because the soon to be released Fedora 15 is named Lovelock and "James Lovelock is a futurologist and so was Jules Verne". Verne is best known for his novels such as Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea, A Journey to the Center of the Earth and Around the World in Eighty Days.

Under the voting system adopted by the Fedora project, "Verne" received 2,204 votes. The second place in the voting went to the name "Beefy Miracle" with 1,662 followed by "Omoto" (1,522), "Nepia" (1,241) and "Bonnet" (1,207). Development on Fedora 16 Verne will begin in earnest after the release of Fedora 15 which is due for release 24 May.
