Fedora 14 nears its end of life

The Fedora 14 GNOME desktop In a post on its mailing list, the Fedora Project developers have reminded users that Fedora 14 "Laughlin" will reach its end of life (EOL) on 8 December 2011. From that date, no further updates, including security updates and critical fixes, will be released, and no new packages will be added to the Fedora 14 collection.

The release cycle for the Red Hat sponsored community distribution is usually relatively short, with a new version being released approximately every six months. According to the current Fedora release policy, maintenance for the last-but-one release ends one month after the current major release is made available. Users are advised to upgrade to Fedora 15, or 16 which was released earlier this week, to continue receiving updates.

In another announcement, the project said it has updated its Code of Conduct policy. While the policy had been approved by the Fedora Board in May, it was not moved out of draft status due to "an oversight on our (the Board's) part". The policy includes rules and expectations for contributors to the project that are aimed at improving communication and productivity.
